Coming from New England and Anna coming from Washington, we both know a thing or two about how to “do fall” and I think we are doing it PRETTY well. After seeing a link on Buzzfeed for “18 Insanely Clever Pop Culture Pumpkin Stencils” we decided to give it a whirl. After chalking we were ready to start drinking (well I was, Anna had already been drinking) when all the sudden we hear crunching, and not a GOOD crunching like a potato chip. This was bad. I go down to Ellie (our 6-month-old rescue dumpster dog) and she stops crunching which is bad news. I open her mouth and see just orange pieces of plastic. Anna and I then realized Ellie had swallowed the razor blade we were going to use to carve the pumpkin with our cool new carving technique. After whisking her to the vet and 1 hour and $675 later, this is what we found.
After not opting for surgery (which would have been $1800) and feeling like a really bad mom, 4 hours later she pooped it out. THANK GOD NOW WE CAN START DRINKING OUR BUTTERBEER!
We saw a recipe on Pinterest (obviously) and chose it because it had like 3 ingredients. One ingredient that was seriously lacking for us was the Booze Factor. The Pinterest recipe was probably really good too if you have kiddos (we definitely do NOT) and want it to be more on the sweet side and non-alcoholic because you definitely don’t want to share your booze with stupid kids (kidding I love kids that aren’t mine)! It was just Cream Soda and butterscotch syrup topped with whipped cream or marshmallow fluff. SO CUTE, but we need a little something EXTRA (ie: booze).
Our recipe, which we tried many different ways with different alcohol, beer, soda’s and this was by FAR the best. Here’s the recipe!
Too Drunk Topanga’s Butterbeer Recipe!
1 bottle of your favorite cream soda. We use Henry Weinhard’s Vanilla Cream soda
Splash of Butterscotch Schnapps. This is all to taste! We preferred to not have it SUPER sweet so we used less, but feel free to use more!
Pumpkin Pie OR Vanilla Vodka. We used about a shot, but also this is pure preference
Pumpkin Ale. This honestly made the biggest difference and REALLY kicked it up. It also cut down on the sweet and made it more buttery and easy to drink.
We topped with Pumpkin Spice Whipped Cream because of course we did!
Well now that we are properly hydrated, we are ready to handle knives! Sorry Ellie! As soon as we saw this post on Buzzfeed we were like “there’s no way we can’t handle this. They wouldn’t post these if they were hard, right?!” Luckily after enough Butterbeers, ANYTHING is possible!
First thing we learned is that apparently I’m the only one who cuts their pumpkin from the bottom. HOW IS THIS NOT AN EVERY PERSON THING?! Maybe it was the fact that I could never get the top on right or that I was lazy OR MAYBE I WAS A PUMPKIN PIONEER!!! Either way, get your kids to do this. Trust me.

I really captured the essence of all that encompasses Beyoncé I feel and I encourage you to try also.
Moral of the story is, if you drink enough, your pumpkin will look EXACTLY how you want it to look and you’ll be perfect. Also those stencils were hard as balls.
